A very quick post from me to wrap up the old year and welcome in the new. Our social life has continued to be stymied by the flu bug that must surely now be an epidemic. We haven’t had it yet but nearly all of our plans have been disrupted by phone call after phone call from people saying they’re down with it, we feel like we’re more-or-less the last family standing and we’re living in isolation. It’s made me slightly obsessed with being out in the fresh air. However, we did manage to have our family get together to celebrate the eldest’s 18th and there were 15 of us in the end so not a bad show. These photos were taken just before we left and are very dark but you’ll see I finally bought the Zara top when I went to Newcastle:

Yesterday’s ‘pre NYE’ party at a friend’s house was (yes you’ve guessed it) cancelled so it was another walk (with a new Christmas hat):

Last night I really needed to get out of the house so Mr MC and I decided to walk to a nice little pub in a neighbouring village, I tried to put together a semi-glam outfit whilst bearing in mind it was a very long walk along muddy lanes:

Today, a very wet walk in Grizedale Forest – the water levels on the lakes are getting scarily high, we could do with a spell of dry weather. The boys are a bit fed up with my ‘walking in the fresh air’ obsession so I was trying to cheer them up with a bit of a song and dance:

And finally, tonight we’re staying in for a Monopoly marathon that I promised the middle one after a glass too many of Prosecco a few days ago – he even videoed me saying it so there’s no way out. It’s a Star Wars special edition – hurrah, the joy(!) However Mr MC has cunningly prepared a jug of margarita to see us through. I’m tired of wearing jeans so even though we’re staying in, I’ve opted for a bit of classic Parisian chic with a party dress that is black chiffon over crimson silk, topped with black cashmere:

Tomorrow we’re spending the day with some favourite friends who match us in our champagne drinking ability and haven’t got flu!!  Before I’m dragged off to the big board game bonanza, I just want to thank you all for bearing with me and reading my blog, for your thoughtful comments and lovely emails. When I started writing I had no idea that I would start building new friendships with brilliant women all over the world. I wish you all a happy new year and I’m really looking forward to us continuing our journey to get our groove back together. In the meantime, may the force be with you (and me) tonight!
