So as we’ve discussed over the last two posts, with every new email that comes in, the call of a new season wardrobe grows ever stronger. The shops are full of seasonal colours and as summer ticks over into autumn I find I’m sick of everything I’ve been wearing and want to change absolutely everything.
In the past I used to get carried away with a jumper here, a pair of boots there without pausing to think through where my wardrobe gaps actually were. Then every year the same thing happened, the things I’d thought were going to look good would then spend the next few months giving me a guilt trip because they didn’t work with anything else.
So I developed my own set of shopping ground rules, ten questions that I make myself answer before I even look at what’s out there to buy. If I stick to them, I usually start the new season with a wardrobe that actually works. I keep a summary of the answers in a notes tab on my phone so that if I’m out shopping in the wild, I can refer to them and resist temptation.
