Well the weekend is here at last and it looks like it’s shaping up to be rather a good one for me with a few little pre-birthday celebrations on the agenda. The actual day isn’t until Monday and as there’s nothing I can do about being another year older I intend to enjoy myself! Last night we met up with my brother, sister and their spouses in a burrito bar. Actually I think my brother had completely forgotten it’s my birthday, but then again he always does – that’s brothers for you (and to be fair, in case he reads this, he has had a lot on his mind recently).

Now, as the sun came out, I thought I’d go for a totally different look. I bought this jumpsuit a while ago for our summer holiday thinking it would be good with a tan expecting it to be one of those things I only wear in exotic climes (I don’t know about you but I have loads of those) so I didn’t want to spend too much.  However after wearing it last night it’s my newfound love and I think it’s great for the UK. Jumpsuits certainly seem to be going down well with over-40 bloggers as I’ve seen them around a lot in the last couple of weeks. There are loads around to choose from but my criteria were:

  • No spaghetti straps
  • A belted rather than elasticated waist (to avoid the pulled-in ‘cracker’ effect)
  • A V neckline rather than a round one to accentuate the elongated shape
  • Crepe rather than jersey so that it wouldn’t go baggy during the evening
  • No cuffed trouser bottoms (after Mr MC’s dramatic reaction to my ‘sports luxe’ joggers!)

In the end the one I bought was a total bargain. It is made by Wal-G and is stocked by House of Fraser and Top Shop but I bought mine from Zalando for the princely sum of £36 plus a further 8% cashback via Quidco! Here it is before we left:

  • Jumpsuit: Zalando
  • Slingbacks: Boden
  • Torque necklace: Accessorize
  • Bangles: inherited from my Mum
  • Snakeskin clutch: vintage Selfridges

I thought about styling it with leopard or snakeskin shoes but thought that was a bit too much for the chilled out night we were having so kept it simple. I was still perhaps a bit overdressed for a Burrito Bar in this part of the world but it was the most supremely stretchy, comfortable thing to wear for a big carb-heavy meal. It isn’t especially well made but you have to look very closely to see that, so if you fancy flirting with the jumpsuit look I can’t recommend it enough, it felt sophisticated and on-trend but not muttony. (Blimey this sounds like a sponsored post – I promise it isn’t, I’m just chuffed with my bargain).

For a complete change of pace, tonight we’re off to meet up with loads of friends at the primary school family fun night – rounders, burgers, wine and a chocolate tombola. I won’t be wearing the jumpsuit!

I’m going to a Boden party tomorrow so if there’s anything you’d like me to try on your behalf in advance of the sale starting on Sunday let me know in the comments and I’ll do my best. Have a great weekend everyone.
