Living in a house full of males, you wouldn’t think that chic stationery would be something I’d need to stress about. But big rugby playing hunks though they are – they have an eye for a nice pen or pencil and as fast as I restock, I find they all disappear. So last week I took to the web to find something suitably girly that they might just leave alone. Now I’m not a ‘Hello Kitty’ sort of girl so I was soon frustrated by the standard offering until I thought of looking at Etsy and found Dottie Rocks. Thinking that pencils with quotes from Wuthering Heights, Coco Chanel and Downton Abbey would be a stretch too far for boy pencil cases I purchased a few sets. They arrived on Saturday, beautifully wrapped.

They’re made by a lady called Karen who is building a business around her passion for pencils – her mission is to make women smile whilst they’re writing their endless lists! At £7.50 a pack they’re lovely to have in the emergency present cupboard. I’m going to have to restock though because my boys have already filtered out ‘put that in your pipe and smoke it’ ‘do I look like a frolicker’ and (rather alarmingly) ‘a girl should be two things’!
